John E. Fogarty

John E. Fogarty (March 23, 1913 – January 10, 1967) was an American politician from the U.S. state of Rhode Island. A member of the Democratic Party, he served in the United States House of Representatives from 1941 until his death in 1967.

Early life and education

Fogarty was born in Providence, Rhode Island. He attended the public schools and graduated from La Salle Academy in 1932. He then attended Providence College.

Political career

Fogarty was elected as a Democrat to the Seventy-seventh and to the twelve succeeding Congresses and served from January 3, 1941, until his death. He was chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs during the Eighty-ninth Congress.

Death and legacy

Fogarty died in Washington, D.C., on January 10, 1967, and was interred in St. Ann Cemetery in Cranston, Rhode Island. The John E. Fogarty Foundation for Persons with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities was established in his memory.
