Pringles is a brand of potato and wheat-based stackable snack chips owned by Kellogg's. Originally developed by Procter & Gamble (P&G) in 1967 and marketed as "Pringle's Newfangled Potato Chips", the brand was sold to Kellogg's in 2012.

Etymology[edit]

The name "Pringles" was chosen from a Cincinnati telephone book, being inspired by Pringle Drive in Finneytown, Ohio, due to its pleasing sound.

History[edit]

Pringles were first sold in the United States in October 1967 and were not rolled out across America until the mid-1970s. The product was originally known as "Pringle's Newfangled Potato Chips", but the name was changed for introduction to the national market.

Marketing[edit]

Pringles has a variety of marketing strategies. The brand's advertising slogan, "Once you pop, the fun don't stop", has been one of the most recognized slogans in the U.S. snack food industry. Pringles also uses product placement, such as appearing in various movies and television shows, and has a strong social media presence.
