Pine Ridge, South Dakota is a census-designated place (CDP) and the tribal headquarters of the Oglala Sioux Tribe of the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. Pine Ridge is located in Oglala Lakota County, formerly known as Shannon County. It is situated in the southwestern part of South Dakota, near the borders with Nebraska and Wyoming.

The history of Pine Ridge is deeply intertwined with the history of the Oglala Sioux Tribe. The area is known for its significant role in the Native American history, particularly during the periods of Westward Expansion and the Indian Wars.
