Harry Ramsden's is a fast food chain based in the United Kingdom, known for its fish and chips. The chain was founded by Harry Ramsden in 1928 in Guiseley, West Yorkshire.

History[edit]

Harry Ramsden opened his first fish and chip shop in a small hut in Guiseley, West Yorkshire in 1928. The business quickly expanded and in 1930, Ramsden moved the business to a larger premises, which was dubbed "The World's Largest Fish and Chip Shop". The original shop could seat 200 people and had a car park for 100 cars.

In the 1950s, the business was sold to a consortium of investors. The new owners expanded the business, opening new outlets across the UK. Today, Harry Ramsden's operates in various locations worldwide, including Australia, Hong Kong, and the Middle East.

Menu[edit]

Harry Ramsden's is renowned for its fish and chips, but the menu also includes other traditional British dishes such as pie and mash and bangers and mash. The fish used in their dishes is sustainably sourced, and the chips are made from British potatoes.

Criticism and Controversy[edit]

Despite its popularity, Harry Ramsden's has faced criticism for its food quality and service. In 2011, the chain was criticized for serving fish that was not sustainably sourced. However, the company has since committed to using only sustainably sourced fish.
