Yunnan (pronunciation: /ˈjuːnæn/) is a province in the southwestern part of China. It is known for its diverse ethnic minorities and its significant role in traditional Chinese medicine.

Etymology

The name "Yunnan" is derived from the Chinese words "云" (yún) meaning "cloud" and "南" (nán) meaning "south", hence the phrase "South of the Clouds".
