Template:Cite journal (pronunciation: /ˈtɛmplɪt/ /saɪt/ /ˈdʒɜːrnəl/) is a citation template used in MediaWiki to properly format references to scholarly journal articles. The etymology of the term comes from the English words "template" (a pre-designed pattern or model), "cite" (to quote as evidence for an argument), and "journal" (a periodical publication containing scholarly articles).

Usage

The Template:Cite journal is used to provide detailed citation information for a journal article in a consistent format. It includes fields for the authors, title of the article, name of the journal, volume and issue number, year of publication, pages, and DOI or URL if available.

Syntax

The basic syntax for the Template:Cite journal is as follows:

Each of the parameters in the template corresponds to a specific piece of information about the journal article being cited.

Parameters

  • last1, first1, last2, first2, etc. - The last and first names of the authors of the article. If there are multiple authors, use 'last2', 'first2', etc.
  • title - The title of the article.
  • journal - The name of the journal in which the article was published.
  • volume - The volume number of the journal.
  • issue - The issue number of the journal.
  • pages - The page range of the article.
  • year - The year the article was published.
  • url - The URL where the article can be accessed, if available.
  • doi - The Digital Object Identifier of the article, if available.
