Spaceflight (pronounced: /ˈspeɪsflaɪt/) is the process of using various types of spacecraft to travel beyond Earth's atmosphere. This term encompasses both manned and unmanned missions.

Etymology

The term "spaceflight" is derived from the English words "space" and "flight". "Space" originates from the Old French espace, meaning "room, area, distance", while "flight" comes from the Old English flyht, meaning "act of flying".
