Sindh

Sindh (/sɪnd/; Sindhi: سنڌ‎; Urdu: سندھ‎) is one of the four provinces of Pakistan. Located in the southeast of the country, it is the historical home of the Sindhi people. Sindh is the third largest province of Pakistan by area, and second largest province by population after Punjab.

Etymology

The province of Sindh has been designated after the river Sindhu (Indus) which literally created it and has been also its sole means of sustenance. However, the importance of the river and close phonetical resemblance in nomenclature would make one consider Sindhu as the probable origin of the name of Sindh.

History

Sindh's history dates back to the times of the Mohenjo-Daro civilization, also known as the Indus Valley Civilization. It has been under the rule of various empires and dynasties, including the Soomra, Samma, Arghun, and Tarkhan dynasties.

Geography

Sindh is located on the western corner of South Asia, bordering the Iranian Plateau to the west. It is bordered by Balochistan to the west and north, Punjab to the north, the Indian states of Gujarat and Rajasthan to the east, and the Arabian Sea to the south.

Health in Sindh

Healthcare in Sindh is administered by the Sindh Health Department. The province has a number of hospitals, clinics, and medical colleges, including the Aga Khan University Hospital, Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences, and Dow University of Health Sciences.
