Quadrant (pronounced: /ˈkwɒdrənt/) is a term used in medicine to describe a section or a part of an organ or body area. The term is derived from the Latin quadrans which means "a quarter".

Definition

In medicine, a quadrant is one of four sections into which an area is divided. This term is often used to describe specific areas of the human body. For example, the abdomen is divided into four quadrants: the right upper quadrant, left upper quadrant, right lower quadrant, and left lower quadrant. Each quadrant contains specific organs and structures.

Usage

The term quadrant is used in various medical contexts. For instance, in Dentistry, the mouth is divided into four quadrants: upper right, upper left, lower right, and lower left. Each quadrant contains a specific number of teeth. In Radiology, a quadrant view is a type of imaging that focuses on one of the four quadrants of the body.
