Pubic Area

The pubic area (pronunciation: /ˈpjuːbɪk ˈɛəriə/) is a region of the body located in the lower part of the abdomen, specifically in the area above the genitals and below the navel. This area is also known as the pubic region or pubis.

Etymology

The term "pubic" is derived from the Latin word "pubis", which means "of the adult" or "of the grown man". This is in reference to the fact that the pubic area is typically covered with pubic hair after puberty.

Anatomy

The pubic area is primarily composed of the pubic bone, which is part of the pelvic girdle. The pubic bone is covered by a layer of fat and skin, which is often covered with pubic hair in post-pubescent individuals. The pubic area also includes the mons pubis, a rounded mound of fatty tissue that covers the pubic bone in females.
