Olmesartan/amlodipine/hydrochlorothiazide
Olmesartan/amlodipine/hydrochlorothiazide (pronunciation: ol-me-sar-tan / am-lo-di-peen / hy-dro-chlor-thia-zide) is a combination medication used in the treatment of high blood pressure (hypertension).
Etymology
The name of the medication is derived from the three active ingredients it contains: Olmesartan, Amlodipine, and Hydrochlorothiazide.
Usage
This medication is used to treat high blood pressure. Lowering high blood pressure helps prevent strokes, heart attacks, and kidney problems. Olmesartan is an angiotensin receptor blocker (ARB) and works by relaxing blood vessels so that blood can flow more easily. Amlodipine is a calcium channel blocker and works by relaxing blood vessels so blood can flow more easily. Hydrochlorothiazide is a "water pill" (diuretic) that causes you to make more urine, which helps your body get rid of extra salt and water.
