Medical Technologist

A Medical Technologist (pronunciation: /ˈmɛdɪkəl tɛkˈnɒlədʒɪst/), also known as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist or Medical Laboratory Scientist, is a healthcare professional who performs diagnostic analysis on a variety of body fluids such as blood, urine, sputum, stool, cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), peritoneal fluid, pericardial fluid, and synovial fluid, as well as other specimens.

Etymology

The term "Medical Technologist" is derived from the Greek words "medicus" meaning "pertaining to healing" and "technologia" meaning "systematic treatment of an art, craft, or technique".

Roles and Responsibilities

Medical Technologists are responsible for performing and interpreting tests that are crucial in the detection, diagnosis, and treatment of disease. They use sophisticated laboratory equipment to conduct these tests and ensure the accuracy of the results. They also develop and modify procedures and establish and monitor programs, to ensure the accuracy of tests.
