Manitoba Health

Manitoba Health (pronunciation: /mænɪˈtoʊbə hɛlθ/) is the department of the Government of Manitoba responsible for providing health care services to the residents of Manitoba, Canada.

Etymology

The term "Manitoba Health" is derived from the name of the province, Manitoba, and the English word "health". Manitoba is named after Lake Manitoba, which in turn comes from the Cree word 'manitou-wapow', meaning "the strait of the spirit or manitobau". The term "health" comes from the Old English 'hǣlþ', which means "wholeness, a being whole, sound or well".
