Latunde Odeku (pronunciation: lah-toon-day oh-deh-koo) was a pioneering neurosurgeon of Nigerian descent. He is recognized for his significant contributions to the field of neurosurgery and for being the first African-trained neurosurgeon in the United States.

Etymology

The name "Latunde" is of Yoruba origin, a language spoken in West Africa, primarily in Nigeria. "Odeku" is also a Yoruba surname. The Yoruba people are one of the largest ethnic groups in Africa, and their language and culture have a significant influence in Nigeria and neighboring countries.

Biography

Latunde Odeku was born in Nigeria and moved to the United States to pursue his medical education.
