LXR alpha pathway - (pronounced) (. . . AL-fuh WEG pathway) Describes a group of proteins in a cell that work together to control how certain genes are expressed and like cholesterol, lipids (fats), bile acids and steroid hormones are produced in the body. Alterations in the LXR-alpha pathway can lead to diseases such as heart disease and cancer. Drugs or substances that affect this signaling pathway are being studied to prevent and treat cancer and other diseases. Also called liver X receptor alpha pathway
