Etymology
The name "Jiangsu" is derived from the combination of the first characters of Jiangning (the former name of Nanjing) and Suzhou, which are significant cities in the province where the university is located.
History
Jiangsu University was established through the combination of Zhenjiang Medical College, Zhenjiang Teachers’ College and Zhenjiang Agricultural College in August 2001. The university has its origins in the former Zhenjiang Medical College that was founded in 1902.
