The term "intelligence" is derived from the Latin intelligere which means "to understand" or "comprehend".

Intelligence is a complex mental capability that involves the ability to reason, plan, solve problems, think abstractly, comprehend complex ideas, learn quickly, and learn from experience. It is not merely book learning, a narrow academic skill, or test-taking smarts. Rather, it reflects a broader and deeper capability for comprehending our surroundings.
Types of Intelligence
There are several types of intelligence, including but not limited to:
- Fluid Intelligence: The ability to think and reason abstractly and solve problems. This ability is considered independent of learning, experience, and education.
- Crystallized Intelligence: The ability to use skills, knowledge, and experience. It does not equate to memory, but it does rely on accessing information from long-term memory.
- Emotional Intelligence: The ability to identify, use, understand, and manage emotions in positive ways to relieve stress, communicate effectively, empathize with others, overcome challenges, and defuse conflict.
