The Health Department (pronunciation: /hɛlθ dɪˈpɑːrtmənt/) is a part of government which focuses on issues related to the general health of the citizenry.

Etymology

The term "Health Department" is derived from the Old English "hǣlth" meaning "wholeness, a being whole, sound or well," and Middle English "departement" meaning "a separate part, a division".

Function

The Health Department is responsible for public health, health education, healthcare services, and disease control. They work to protect and improve the health of their community by implementing educational programs, developing policies, administering services, and conducting research.
