Health Care Policy (pronunciation: /ˈhelθ keər ˈpɑːlɪsi/), also known as Health Policy, refers to the decisions, plans, and actions undertaken to achieve specific health care goals within a society.

Etymology

The term "Health Care Policy" is derived from the English words "health", "care", and "policy". "Health" comes from the Old English "hǣlth", meaning "wholeness, a being whole, sound or well". "Care" originates from the Old English "caru", meaning "sorrow, anxiety, grief", which later evolved to mean "serious attention or consideration applied to doing something correctly or to avoid damage or risk". "Policy" is derived from the French "police", meaning "civil administration".

Health Care Policy encompasses a vast range of issues including public health, health care quality, health insurance, the provision of health care services, and the overall health care system. It involves decisions at many levels, including individual, community, national, and global levels.
