Halsted radical mastectomy - (pronounced) (HAWL-sted RA-dih-kul ma-STEK-toh-mee) Surgery to remove the entire breast, all lymph nodes under the arm, and the chest wall muscles under the breast. For many years, the most common type of breast cancer surgery was the radical Halsted mastectomy, but it is rarely used today. It must only be used if the breast cancer has spread to the chest wall muscles. Also called radical mastectomy
