Gestonorone caproate
Gestonorone caproate (pronounced as jes-toh-NOH-rohn KAP-roh-ayt) is a progestin medication which is used in gynecology and obstetrics. It is also known by its brand names Depostat and Primostat.
Etymology
The term "Gestonorone caproate" is derived from the words "gesto-" which refers to pregnancy, "-nor-" which is a common suffix in steroid nomenclature, and "caproate" which refers to the caproic acid ester group that is attached to the gestonorone molecule.
Pharmacology
Gestonorone caproate is a synthetic progestogen and is a long-acting estrogen and progestin combination. It is used primarily in the treatment of endometriosis, uterine fibroids, and menopausal symptoms. It works by suppressing the ovulation process and altering the lining of the uterus.
