Fire Station

A Fire Station (pronunciation: /ˈfaɪər ˈsteɪʃən/) is a structure or other area set aside for storage of firefighting apparatus such as fire trucks and related vehicles, personal protective equipment, fire hose, fire extinguishers, and other firefighting equipment. It may also have dormitory living facilities and work areas for the use of fire fighters.

Etymology

The term "Fire Station" comes from the Latin word "statio" meaning "station" and the Old English "fyr" meaning "fire". It was first used in the early 19th century to describe a place where fire-fighting apparatus is kept and fire-fighters are stationed.
