fibrocystic breasts - (pronounced) (FY-broh-SIS-tik breasts) A common condition characterized by benign (noncancerous) changes in breast tissue. These changes can include irregular lumps or cysts, breast swelling or discomfort, tender nipples, and itching. These symptoms can change during the menstrual cycle and usually stop after menopause. Fibrocystic breasts can occur at any age but are most common in younger women. This condition does not increase the risk of breast cancer. Also called fibrocystic breast changes
