Feodor Vassilyev (pronunciation: /'feɪ.ədɔːr və'sɪl.jɛv/) was a peasant from Shuya, Russia. He is known for his first wife who holds the record for the most children a single woman has given birth to.

Etymology

The name Feodor is of Greek origin, derived from the name Theodoros, which means "gift of God". Vassilyev is a patronymic surname, derived from the Russian name Vasily, equivalent to the English name Basil.

Biography

Feodor Vassilyev lived in the 18th century in Shuya, Russia. He is most famous for his first wife, whose name is not recorded, who gave birth to 69 children. This included 16 pairs of twins, 7 sets of triplets, and 4 sets of quadruplets. His second wife gave birth to 18 children, making Vassilyev the father of a total of 87 children.
