February (pronunciation: /ˈfɛb.juːˌɛr.i/) is the second month of the year in the Julian and Gregorian calendar. The term is derived from the Latin word Februarius, named after the purification ritual Februa held on February 15 in the old Roman calendar.

Etymology

The word February is believed to have derived from the name of the festival of purification known as Februa, in the old Roman calendar. It is also associated with the Roman god Februus.
