EmblemHealth (pronounced em-blem-helth) is a non-profit health insurance company based in New York City. It is one of the United States' largest not-for-profit health insurers, providing coverage to approximately 3.1 million people.

History

EmblemHealth was formed in 2006 through the merger of two New York-based health insurance providers, Group Health Incorporated (GHI) and Health Insurance Plan of New York (HIP). Both GHI and HIP were established in the 1930s and 1940s, respectively, and have a long history of providing health insurance coverage to New Yorkers.
