Duane Reade

Duane Reade (pronounced: doo-an reed) is a chain of pharmacy and convenience stores, primarily located in New York City, New York. The name Duane Reade is derived from the company's first successful business location at the intersection of Duane and Reade Streets in Manhattan.

Etymology

The name "Duane Reade" comes from the names of two streets in the Lower Manhattan area in New York City. The first store was located between Duane and Reade streets, hence the name.

History

Duane Reade was founded in 1960 by the brothers Abraham, Eli, and Jack Cohen, with the assistance of a few other investors. The store was named after Duane and Reade streets in lower Manhattan, where the company's first warehouse was located. In 2010, Duane Reade became a subsidiary of the Walgreens Boots Alliance.

Duane Reade stores offer a wide range of services including pharmacy services, health products, beauty products, and convenience services. Some locations also offer photo services and fresh food options.
