Defence Services Medical Academy

Defence Services Medical Academy (DSMA), pronounced /dɪˈfɛns ˈsɜːrvɪsɪz ˈmɛdɪkəl əˈkædəmi/, is a premier medical institution of the Myanmar Armed Forces. It is located in Mingaladon, Yangon, Myanmar.

Etymology

The name "Defence Services Medical Academy" is derived from its primary function as a training institution for the medical personnel of the Myanmar Armed Forces, also known as the Defence Services.

History

The Defence Services Medical Academy was established in 1992, replacing the earlier Defence Services Medical School which was founded in 1964. The academy offers a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree, and its graduates are commissioned into the Myanmar Armed Forces.

Curriculum

The curriculum at DSMA is rigorous and comprehensive, covering a wide range of medical disciplines. The first two years focus on basic medical sciences, followed by three years of clinical studies, and a final year of internship in military and civilian hospitals.
