Cover Oregon

Cover Oregon (pronounced /ˈkʌvər ˈɔːrɪɡən/) was a health insurance marketplace for the U.S. state of Oregon, established as Oregon's implementation of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.

Etymology

The name "Cover Oregon" is derived from the state's name, Oregon, and the word "cover," which in this context refers to providing health insurance coverage.

History

Cover Oregon was established in 2011 following the passage of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA). The marketplace was intended to help Oregon residents and small businesses compare and purchase health insurance plans. However, the website for Cover Oregon faced significant technical issues upon its launch in 2013, which led to its eventual closure in 2015. The responsibilities of Cover Oregon were transferred to the federally run HealthCare.gov.
