Continuing Education (pronunciation: /kənˈtɪn.juː.ɪŋ ˌedʒʊˈkeɪ.ʃən/) refers to the process of learning new skills or acquiring knowledge beyond the basic academic education. The concept is often associated with adults who return to education to complete a degree, learn a new skill, or enhance their knowledge in a particular field.

Etymology

The term "Continuing Education" is derived from the English words "continue" and "education". The word "continue" comes from the Latin word 'continuare' meaning 'to make all in one, connect', and "education" is derived from the Latin word 'educatio' which means 'a breeding, a bringing up, a rearing'. Together, they imply the ongoing process of learning and development.
