COVID-19 pandemic in Pakistan

The COVID-19 pandemic in Pakistan (pronunciation: /koʊvɪd naɪnˈtiːn pændɪmɪk ɪn pɑːkɪstɑːn/) is part of the ongoing worldwide pandemic of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). The virus was confirmed to have reached Pakistan in February 2020.

Etymology

The term "COVID-19" is derived from "Coronavirus Disease 2019". The disease is caused by the virus SARS-CoV-2, which is a novel coronavirus that was first identified in December 2019 in the city of Wuhan, China.
