Brett Giroir (pronounced jir-WAHR) is an American pediatric critical care specialist who has held several high-ranking positions in the field of health and medical research.

Etymology

The name "Brett" is of Old Norse origin, meaning "a Breton", while "Giroir" is a surname of French origin.

Career

Brett Giroir began his career as a pediatric critical care specialist. He later served as the Executive Vice President and CEO of the Texas A&M Health Science Center. In 2018, he was appointed as the Assistant Secretary for Health under the Trump administration. In this role, he oversaw key public health offices and programs, including the Office of the Surgeon General and the U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps.

Education

Brett Giroir received his Bachelor of Science in biology from Harvard University and his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. He completed his residency in pediatrics at the Harvard-affiliated Children's Hospital Boston and a fellowship in pediatric critical care at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.
