Bodyguard

A Bodyguard (/ˈbɒdiˌɡɑːrd/) is a type of security guard or government agent who protects a person or people — usually high-ranking public officials or officers, wealthy people, and celebrities — from danger: generally theft, assault, kidnapping, assassination, harassment, loss of confidential information, threats, or other criminal offences.

Etymology

The term "bodyguard" is derived from the English words "body" and "guard". The word "body" comes from the Old English "bodig", which means "trunk" or "torso". The word "guard" comes from the Old French "garde", which means "to watch over" or "to protect".
