Baja California

Baja California (pronunciation: /ˈbɑːhɑː kælɪˈfɔːrniə/), officially the Free and Sovereign State of Baja California is a state in Mexico. It is the northernmost and westernmost of the 32 Federal Entities of Mexico.

Etymology

The name Baja California means "Lower California" in Spanish. The term "Baja" is derived from the Spanish word 'bajo', meaning 'low' or 'under', and "California" is a name that was used by a 16th-century Spanish romance novel to describe a mythical island paradise located east of Asia.

Geography

Baja California is bordered to the north by the United States, specifically the state of California, to the east by Sonora, the Colorado River, and the Gulf of California, and to the south and west by the Pacific Ocean. The state's capital is Mexicali.

Health Care

Health care in Baja California is provided by a mix of public and private organizations. The state's health care system includes hospitals, clinics, and health centers. The Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) and the Institute for Social Security and Services for State Workers (ISSSTE) are the two main public health care providers in the state.
