Aquaphor

Aquaphor (/ˈækwəfɔːr/) is a brand of over-the-counter (OTC) skin care ointments manufactured by Beiersdorf Inc, an affiliate of Beiersdorf AG. Aquaphor is uniquely designed to restore smooth and healthy skin and is recommended for different types of skin conditions.

Etymology

The term "Aquaphor" is derived from the Latin words "aqua" meaning water, and "phor" meaning to bear or carry. This is in reference to the product's ability to retain water in the skin.

Uses

Aquaphor is used to:

  • Protect or soothe extremely dry skin, chapped lips, cracked hands and feet, minor cuts and burns, and other minor skin irritations.
  • Prevent and treat diaper rash.
  • Protect skin from the effects of weather and wind.
  • Temporarily protect minor cuts, scrapes, and burns.
  • Temporarily protect and help relieve chapped or cracked skin and lips.
  • Help protect from the drying effects of wind and cold weather.

Ingredients

Aquaphor Healing Ointment's formula includes Petrolatum, which is a semi-solid mixture of hydrocarbons derived from petroleum. It works by creating a protective barrier on the skin that allows flow of excess fluid and oxygen. The barrier also keeps in skin's own moisture to create an ideal healing environment.
