Anniversary (/ænɪˈvɜːrsəri/; from Latin anniversarius, from annus for "year" and versus, past participle of vertere to turn), is a date that is remembered or celebrated because a special or notable event occurred on that date in a previous year.

The term "anniversary" comes from the Latin word anniversarius, which is a combination of the words annus (year) and versus (turning). This term was first used in English in the 13th century.
