The Abiye (Safe Motherhood) Project (pronunciation: ah-bee-yeh) is a health initiative aimed at reducing maternal and infant mortality rates. The term "Abiye" is derived from the Yoruba language, a major African language spoken in Nigeria, meaning "safe motherhood".
