Triple smear (pronunciation: /ˈtrɪpəl smɪər/) is a diagnostic procedure used in the field of medicine to detect the presence of cervical cancer or other abnormalities in the cervix. The term "triple smear" is derived from the three-part process of the procedure, which involves the collection of cells from the cervix, endocervix, and surrounding areas.

Procedure

The triple smear procedure involves the collection of cells from three different areas: the ectocervix, the endocervix, and the transformation zone. The cells are then smeared onto a glass slide for examination under a microscope. This procedure is often performed during a Pap test or colposcopy.
