Preventive Care

Preventive care (pronounced: pruh-ven-tiv kehr) is a type of health care that is focused on disease prevention and health maintenance. It includes services such as screenings, check-ups, and patient counseling that are used to prevent illnesses, disease, and other health problems.

Etymology

The term "preventive care" comes from the Latin word "praeventus", which means "to precede" or "to anticipate", and the Old French word "caresce", which means "to care for". It was first used in the medical context in the late 19th century.
