Naxitamab-gqgk

Naxitamab-gqgk (pronounced as nax-i-TAM-ab GQGK) is a monoclonal antibody used in the treatment of neuroblastoma, a type of cancer that often occurs in the adrenal glands.

Etymology

The name "Naxitamab-gqgk" is derived from the International Nonproprietary Names (INN) system. "Naxi-" is a prefix used for monoclonal antibodies, "-tamab" indicates that the drug targets tumors, and "-gqgk" is a four-letter suffix used to distinguish the drug from other monoclonal antibodies.

Usage

Naxitamab-gqgk is used in combination with granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor (GM-CSF), interleukin-2 (IL-2), and 13-cis-retinoic acid (RA) for the treatment of high-risk neuroblastoma. It works by binding to the GD2 glycolipid antigen on neuroblastoma cells, which triggers an immune response that destroys the cancer cells.
