Natural science (pronunciation: /ˈnætʃ(ə)rəl ˈsaɪəns/) is a branch of science concerned with the description, prediction, and understanding of natural phenomena, based on empirical evidence from observation and experimentation.

Etymology

The term "natural science" is derived from the Latin word natura meaning "birth, nature, quality," and the word scientia meaning "knowledge."
