Mypyramid

Mypyramid (pronounced: my-pyramid) is a food guidance system developed by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) to help people understand how to eat healthily. It was introduced in 2005 as a replacement for the USDA's previous food guide pyramid and was replaced by MyPlate in 2011.

Etymology

The term "Mypyramid" is a combination of the words "my" and "pyramid". The "my" part of the name is intended to suggest that the recommendations are individualized, while "pyramid" refers to the shape of the diagram used to represent the food guidance system.

Description

Mypyramid was designed to help individuals understand the proportions of different food groups they should consume each day. The pyramid shape was used to represent the concept that some foods should be eaten in larger amounts than others. The pyramid was divided into six color-coded sections, each representing a different food group: grains, vegetables, fruits, oils, milk, and meat and beans.

The Mypyramid system also included recommendations for physical activity, represented by a figure climbing the steps of the pyramid. This was intended to emphasize the importance of exercise in maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
