Medical degree
Medical degree is an academic degree awarded for studies in fields associated with medicine and/or surgery. Doctors in some jurisdictions may opt to use the title Dr. in front of their name, or MD (Medical Doctor) or DO (Doctor of Osteopathy) after their name.

Types of medical degrees[edit]
There are several types of medical degrees, awarded based on the area of study. These include:
- Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS, MBChB, BMBS): This is typically the first medical degree awarded by medical schools in countries that follow the tradition of the United Kingdom.
- Doctor of Medicine (MD, Dr.Med): This is a postgraduate degree in countries that follow the tradition of the United States. In some other countries, it is an undergraduate degree.
- Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO): This is a professional doctoral degree for physicians and surgeons offered by medical schools in the United States.
Medical education and training[edit]
Medical education varies around the world. It typically involves entry level education at a university medical school, followed by a period of supervised practice or internship, and/or residency.
Undergraduate medical degrees[edit]
In countries that follow the system in the United States, the Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery is a graduate degree, following the acquisition of a bachelor's degree.
Postgraduate medical degrees[edit]
In countries that follow the tradition of continental Europe or the system in the United States, the equivalent of a medical degree is awarded as a Doctor of Medicine or a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine.
