Library Science

Library Science (pronounced: /ˈlaɪ.brər.i ˈsaɪ.əns/) is an interdisciplinary field that applies the practices, perspectives, and tools of management, information technology, and education to libraries. This also includes the preservation, organization, dissemination and collection of information resources, and the political economy of information.

Etymology

The term "Library Science" is composed of two words, "Library" and "Science". "Library" comes from the Latin word "liber", which means book. "Science" comes from the Latin word "scientia", which means knowledge. Therefore, Library Science can be understood as the science of managing and organizing books and knowledge.
