LSIL - An area of abnormal cells that forms on the surface of certain organs such as the cervix, vagina, vulva, anus, and esophagus. LSILs look slightly abnormal under the microscope. They are usually caused by infection with certain types of human papillomavirus (HPV) and are found on a Pap test or biopsy. LSILs usually go away on their own without treatment, but sometimes they can become cancerous and spread to nearby tissues. LSIL is sometimes referred to as mild dysplasia. Also known as a low-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion
