iPhone 6 is a smartphone designed and marketed by Apple Inc.. It is part of the iPhone series and was announced on September 9, 2014, alongside the iPhone 6 Plus, its larger counterpart. The iPhone 6 represents a significant departure from the design of previous iPhone models, featuring rounded edges, a thinner profile, and improvements in hardware and performance. It was succeeded by the iPhone 6S.
Design
The iPhone 6 features a 4.7-inch Retina display with a resolution of 1334x750 pixels, providing a higher level of clarity and color accuracy. The body of the phone is made from anodized aluminum, stainless steel, and glass, giving it a sleek, premium appearance. The power button was moved to the side of the phone to make it more accessible due to the larger size of the device.
Hardware
The device is powered by the Apple A8 chip, which offers 25% faster processing power and 50% faster graphics compared to the previous generation. It also includes an M8 motion coprocessor that efficiently collects, processes, and stores sensor data without heavily draining the battery. The iPhone 6 comes with 1GB of RAM and is available in 16, 64, and 128 GB storage options.
Camera
The rear-facing camera is an 8-megapixel iSight camera with 1.5µ pixels, f/2.2 aperture, and is capable of 1080p HD video recording. The front-facing camera, or FaceTime HD camera, has been improved to 1.2 megapixels and can also capture 720p HD video. The camera software includes features like Focus Pixels, which provides faster autofocus, and improved face detection.
Software
The iPhone 6 originally shipped with iOS 8, which introduced features such as Apple Pay, HealthKit, and Family Sharing. Over the years, it has received multiple iOS updates, enhancing its functionality and security.
Reception
Upon its release, the iPhone 6 received generally positive reviews, with praise directed at its improved design, specifications, and overall user experience. However, it was not without its controversies, including the "Bendgate" issue, where some users reported that the device could bend under pressure.
Legacy
The iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus have been credited with helping Apple achieve record-breaking sales figures. The design and feature set of the iPhone 6 have influenced subsequent iPhone models, making it one of the most impactful products in the iPhone lineup.
