Indus Valley Civilization
The Indus Valley Civilization (pronunciation: /ˈɪndəs ˈvæli sɪˌvaɪzəˈneɪʃən/), also known as the Harappan Civilization, was a Bronze Age civilization that developed approximately during 3300–1300 BCE in the northwestern regions of South Asia, extending from what today is northeast Afghanistan to Pakistan and northwest India.
Etymology
The term "Indus" is derived from the Indus River, around which the civilization developed. The civilization is often referred to as "Harappan" after its type site, Harappa, where the first of its ruins was discovered.
