Identifying (/aɪˈdɛntɪfaɪɪŋ/) is the process of establishing or indicating who or what (someone or something) is. The term is often used in the medical field to refer to the process of diagnosing or determining a particular disease or condition.

Etymology

The term "identifying" originates from the Latin word "identificare", which means "to make to resemble". It was first used in the English language in the 1640s.
