High Technology
High technology (pronounced: /haɪ tɛknɒlədʒi/), often abbreviated to high tech (origin: 1960s; from the phrase "high technology"), is technology that is at the cutting edge: the most advanced technology currently available. It is often used in reference to micro-electronics, rather than other technologies. The adjective form is technologically advanced.
Etymology
The term "high technology" has its origins in a report prepared for the U.S. Congress by the Office of Technology Assessment in 1982, which used the term to refer to technology that requires significant resources to develop and maintain.
