Genderfluid

Genderfluid (pronunciation: /ˈdʒɛndərfluːɪd/) is a term used within the LGBTQ+ community to describe a person whose gender identity is not fixed and can change over time.

Etymology

The term "Genderfluid" is a compound of the words "gender" and "fluid". The word "gender" comes from the Latin genus meaning "kind" or "type", while "fluid" comes from the Latin fluidus meaning "flowing" or "changeable". The term was coined to describe the experience of having a gender identity that is not static, but rather fluctuates.

Definition

A Genderfluid person does not identify strictly as male or female, but may identify as one or the other at different times, or may identify as a combination of both. This identity is often associated with the broader Non-binary gender category, which includes all gender identities that do not fit within the traditional binary of male or female.
